Ok here goes !! I am looking to add a convertor to my car!! My choices are down to either a SY-3500 or a ST-3500! Now I drive this car everyday to and from work and plan on doing some but not a lot of test n tune at the local dragway!! I may even upgrade to drag radials! I am looking for the least amount of headaches no codes no snapping driveshafts no broken rearends <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> !! U know the typical I want my cake and eat it to type convertor!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> Thanx in advance for any help!!

The SY-3500 will dead hook on all but the worst track conditions an cut 1.7-1.6 60fts. Due to the SY low STR (1.6) the converter will feel much looser than it is.

The ST-3500 will be harder to hook with a DR, but when it does you'll run faster. With traction you could see 1.6-1.5 60ft with it. The ST has a 2.5 STR, which means it hits the tires harder, but that will also make it "feel" better on the street.

In a 99, you shouldn't have any trouble with ethier of these converters. It's mostly the '01-02 cars having "issues".

01 & 02 car have a different transmission "tuning" in the computer that freaks out with a higher stall. Mostly it's a problem with the "bigger" stalls.. but people have experienced it with the 3500 series.

I've been around 2 different 01 cars that didn't have a single problem with a ST-3500.. and I've heard about others that have had troubles.

My suggestion is to change the converter and plan on having computer tuning done.

315 nittos should hook pretty well, assuming bolt-ons and 3.23 gears. don't except to hook if you spray from a dead stop.

I haven't updated the page lately, but my new #'s with no new substantial mods (I finally got to run at a track that HOOKS - Pomona, CA) are:

ET: 12.52 (lifted throttle/hit brakes while trying to avoid breaking out of a bracket race)

60': 1.72

Your results may vary...

If it makes any difference in your decision, Yank has just released a revised lock-up clutch that is calibrated specifically for the '01-'02 F-Bodies. Yank did the same thing for the C5s about a year ago. See, every year there are changes with the trannies and with the pcm that can affect how a converter works in your car. Yank was quick to address the problems all other converter manufacturers were having with C5s...now they dominate that market with very happy customers. It's taken longer to isolate the specific problems associated with the newer F-Bodies, but as of April 1st, it is all 100% up to date for the '01-'02 models. Unfortunately for guys like TR, he had problems. With the changes in place, there will be no more lock-up problems with the ST3500s for the '01 and '02 models.

So Patrick G, your saying the lock up issues are fixed for 01-02's. Then the only issues are: 1) irratic idle which can be fixed with the idle relearn procedure 2) 2-3 solenoid code which can be fixed by driving in 3rd and not excessively reving the engine. If I can install this converter without the need for programming, a shiftkit, and washers for correct converter-flex plate spacing then I'm in like Flynn.

The 2-3 solenoid code should also be fixed by the converter clutch update. No programming should be necessary, no need to drive in 3rd gear, nor are washers for proper flexplate clearance during installation...which if you were installing before, then it was unnecessary.
