4L60 or TH400
I have a stock motor car with bolt ons, including a high stall torque converter. The converter has basically overheated the stock 700R4/$L60 transmission and really worn down the clutch packs.
It needs a rebuild ...
At the same time I am installing a T-Trim (LT1) on the stock motor. Now I know that some day (one week, one month, one year...) down the road the motor will go pop. Then I install the 396 mod
So would you now spend about $1000 on the 4L60 rebuild or jump to the full blown TH400. In the end I see myself using a TH400 with GV overdrive unit, but at what point I don't know. The primary use of the car would be street/strip with no real long distance driving.
There are advantages either way ... any thoughts ?
If I was you, there's no way I'd even consider fixing/rebuilding the stock motor. A TH350/400 is the most simple way to go as far as replacing the stock trans with something more beefy. JMHO...

Well, only you know what you can tolerate in your car and what you consider "driveable."
