dynos and high stall converters

Default dynos and high stall converters

I have a th400 with a tci 10" converter. I put 391hp down @6600 on a dynojet. My tq was only 330, but very flat. Is a dyno an inacurate measure of tq numbers just as much as hp numbers,especially through a th400?

You will not see the numbers on the dyno. Converter won't lock, drivetrain loss through the TH400 and on.....

I lost 35 RWHP and a ton of tourue on the dyno after the M6 to TH350 conversion. The car is faster though.

how much torque did you lose? what were you dyno numbers(hp and tq) with the m6?

The 400/stall makes the dyno numbers look like crap, but the time slips at the track make up the difference.

Plus you have the peace of mind knowing the TH400 will stand up to a lot more abuse

I only use Dynos to tune in AFR and timing for peak power - whatever that washes out to. Converters and Dynos dont mix. Forget peak numbers with a stalled A4. Look at converter performance as in shift extension (what it flashes to on the DYno when you romp it) and torque multiplication as in the torque curve. The rest of A4 tuning should be done at the track. A properly prepped stalled A4 will beat a similar prepped M6 off the line every time and in more cases than not run a better number. Id rather have 30rwkw less and flog an M6 by 0.4s and 3mph at the track any day.

Dynos hate auto stall cars, I dont put to much faith into what they tell me. Let the ET do the talking!
