Default " D" or "OD"

OD is usually where the tq converter will lockup for extended cruising. If you're racing, it's unlikely to lock up anyways as it'll be under load, but it wouldn't hurt to leave it down into D to play it safe. Also towing I would not use OD. What trans, 4l60E?

I leave it in OD for my Z28 all the time, unless I'm going crazy around a backroad or at the strip where it doesn't need to shift into OD.

In some of the other POS cars I've driven I'll leave it in D going around town because it'll shift into OD, then back into D when you get on the gas because it doesn't have any power. Keeps the tranny from going beserk and shifting all the time.

Dont Leave it IN OD When Racing From Low Speeds, It will Wear out your Tranny Much Faster. Then Leaving it in D

The only time I leave it in OD is when crusing on the highway, everywhere else I leave it in D. For a stock stall, leaving it in OD is fine.

If you speed shift a 4L60E, you are a fucktard.
Put it in D, then roll the notes.

OD= daily driving, it's the most conservative setting the tranny has, for people who leave it there.

D= quicker shifts, stays in gear longer, drops down in less time, basically the performance aspect.

the 4l60e is a 3 gear transmission with an extra gear for cruising.

Leave it in D unless you have problems hitting the limiter. Then try OD. If that doesn't work, it's probably time for a rebuild

I SWEAR I've hit 4th gear at WOT in my car. About 145-ish or so?

So in a Pontiac 3 is D and D is OD ?? it seems like it would be the other way around but if you say so...
