Default New guy with tranny question.

I just got my first f-body, 98 Z28 with 54k miles on it, now I went and raced my friend with his T/A , we went twice and both times the car shifted fine, but dang that torque management sucks.
Anyway we parked the cars for about 10mins then everyone jumped in my car (about 800 pounds worth of people in my car) and I took them for a ride, I nail it about 20 mph and take off, shift to second is nice, top of 2nd it just banged off the rev limiter so I shutdown. I drove in lockup for about 5 mins to cool the tranny then tried again, same thing top of 2nd banging the rev limiter. So whats the deal? Does it have anything to do with the ton of extra weight in the car or was the tranny to hott? (I checked the tranny fluid earlier and it was clean, no burnt smell)

Edit: Car is bone stock.

Were you manually shifting or letting the car shift itself? Can you get it to shift to 3rd when not at WOT? What level is the tranny fluid at, (full, add, or in between) be sure to check it while the car is on a flat surface and idling.

Side note, if you are completely stock I'd be REALLY surprised if you've reached Torque Management, maybe TCS (traction control)

I had the car in 3rd but I let it do all the shifting itself. When not wot it shifts fine and perfect, the fluid is nice and pink not burnt, and full.

I went out today and did a 2nd gear pull and it shifted to 3rd just like its supposed to.

When your at WOT always have it in D, mine would do the same thing when it was bone stock. I would have it in 3 and it would hit limiter 2-3 shift, put it in D, and see if it will shift okay.

I keep it in 3rd becuase from what i have read you should not go WOT into overdrive(4th). It has not missed a shift the past two days, I think it might have been a fluke becuase of the huge amount of weight i had in the car.
