tranny questions
tranny questions I am looking to buy a 1998 to 2002 V8 Camaro or Trans Am. How much power will the automatic hold before giving out on average. does it hold up better than the 6spd. I now the six speed is more fun. Also does the auto get as good of gas mileage as the manual. It is easier to find an auto so I wanted to ask the experts.
Unfortunately, the 4L60E is not the best option when it comes to high horse applications. It does alright for stock or lightly modded F-bodies, but it is a bomb waiting for the big bang. However, using our wonderful sponsors, you can get nicely built 60E's for a reasonable price that will take anything you throw at them. Rock-on, Rossler and FLT are excellent choices. The M6's will take much more power in stock form and will get better gas mileage due to having basically two overdrives. If you get a well-built auto with a 3000 and up TC, you'll never look back. I'm just drooling until I can get my new tranny and Yank 3500 in. Other options are TH350 and TH400 trannies that are basically bulletproof. Hope this helps some.
