transmission acting up !

transmission acting up ! Has anybody ever had a problem with their transmission where when
you start going and when it switches to second the car feels like the bottom just fell out of it and then the car acts like it is in neutral and i have to pull the shifter down to second gear for it to get back in gear. Then if you stop and put it above OD and pull it back down into OD from like neutral or something it is like it is in neutral still and I have to pull it back down to second. Any help would be very appreciated.
