Default 4L60E or 4L80E?????

Building a '55 Studebaker Pickup - New all aluminum LM4, 5.3 liter. Need transmission, what would be the best way to go, 4L60E, 4L65E, 4L80E???? other????? Not building a HP beast, just would like to get 350 +/- horsepower, and want a dependable transmission. Also, torque converter, stock, aftermarket, how much???? Opinions? Will probably go with a low mileage tranny from a salvage yard, $1,000 +/-??????

If you're not going to be pushing much more than 350HP, I'd say a built 4L60E should be fine. Get one out of the junkyard, and take it to a reputable shop to get beefed up. I'd definitely go with an aftermarket torque converter as well, makes a world of difference with an automatic in terms of performance.

For 350hp I'd say any of the trannies would be fine. If your looking for something cheap and aren't worried about od then I'd also look into a 350 or 400 tranny, can find them anywhere and for cheap. I'd definately get an aftermarket converter, really wakes up an auto car.
