ok this is probably a gay question but my girl needs help... she has a 98 Trans am with an auto trans.... when goes to put it in gear after pressing on the brake and all the button on the shifter will not push down to let her put it in gear what can i do or check on this to make it work for her? any help appreciated guys thanks a lot

 

try checking the (bsti) BRAKE TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK it stops you from taking the car out of park without pushing the brake. the soleniod might be bad, 1.remove the shitft *** or lever pry out the clip and pull off the ****. 2.apply parking brake 3.open the console door for access, remove the retaining screws and lift up on the rear edge of the shift plate. 4.unplug the electric connector from the soleniod allpy battery voltage to the soleniod if it clicks then its good if it dont it is fried. If it does click the check the power from the battery to the connector.
