Default 4L60E extra part goes where? Help

I was changing out the 2 Shift selenoids in the back of the tranny.. 1 fell into the oil oil pan i used to catch the fluid. i did inside and find another part. It is a long maybe 4 or 5 inch shaft about a 1/2" in diamater and it has cut aways,.,. its not a perfect shaft . it is machined out of a gereyish material.

Anyone know where this goes ? Thanks

What you have is a shift valve. It needs to be installed skinny end first. Also there should be a spring in that bore as well. Install spring first and then the valve.

Thankyou Vince @ FLT.

I installed it just as you said and it slides in and out with the help of the spring. Thankyou.

There is another selenoid right beside it, in fact its the same part number. I removed this selenoid and put my finger in the hole - The Shift Valve is almost like stuck in the hole. I can feel the end of the Valve- but it is not springy like the other one. Should it move back and forth?

Could this be my shifting problem ?

There is not a spring behind that one. They do stick however it is hard to check this with the valve body bolted to the trans.
