Converter Wake up

Converter Wake up I have an 01 z28 with 2.73's and im sick of the acceleration issues. I purchased a yank custom built converter with a 3200 stall and a 2.5 str. How much will this wake the car up ? Is it still necessary to do gears ?
im about to do the same thing only im gonna go with a 4K stall, stalls really wake up these A4 b/cs it puts them right in the powerband and that allows you to speed up faster. Also some guys do gears and some dont just really depends weather or not the converter makes you really happy, but a nice set of 3.73s would go good with a converter
