my 80 was 170# i believe.

with identical 60 foot times my 80e still makes 3 more mph than i could with my 6 speed.

I went with a Hughes-built 4L80E and the TCI T-Com controller and I would never go back to a non-programmable tranny. If you never plan on going higher than 500rwhp I would check out the built 60E's, otherwise go straight to the 80E's and don't look back. Unless someone else is paying for your gas and your never want to roll race to speed in your life.

FWIW, 4L80's can be found in just about any salvage yard, for those thinking that they are super expensive. I helped my buddy pull one out of a short bus last weekend. Body on the bus was shot, but it was driven in. Pulled it out in under an hour, cost, 70 bucks, LOL. There are more in there too.

4l80 for the win, reliable as **** with allot of power even with minimal upgrades as I ahve talked to a few on here with insanely awesome results! Cheap too when you find a core yourself and rebuild it, this is what I will be doing.

Damnit, can someone give me some physical size dimensions of the 80 compared to the 4L60E?

I think I can get one pretty cheap but I just put a brand new floor in my '56 Belair and need to know how much trans tunnel mods I would need to fit that big 80 in there.

4wd units have only 1 speed sensor up front. the rear sensor plug is a dummy plug, the real speed sensor is in the transfer case. A 2wd 4l80e is what you want. Any unit 94 up is compatible with LSx engines and electronics. 98 down 4l80e's dont have the top bellhousing bolt hole. The Hydramatic division made revisions to the 4l80e in both 99 and 01 so for best strength it's best to get an 01 up. The 4l85e came behind the big block in the avalanche and behind duramaxes in the vans and has 5 pinion planetaries versus 4 in the 80e....but I wouldn't worry about that, the stock 80e with a shift kit has been known to handle big power.

I just did a M6 to a TH350 and am putting down maybe 750 to the wheels. A TH350 can handle it with no problems as long as it is built right. I paid just under 1500 dollars for everything to do the swap and build the trans and sold my old M6 set-up for alot more.
you said just under 1500 ?!?! I’ve had my th350 rebuilt TWICE I’m assuming due to crappy work and I’m done with crappy shops I want a legit place to build my transmission supporting up to 450hp and all I’m finding is just over 2 grand ... where did you find a deal like that ?

The person that wrote the statement (josh2002-ws6), that you quoted... did so in 2007.

There for josh2002-ws6 paid that price in 2007 or prior... so at least 13-14 years ago.

Many forum members seem to miss the date/ time marker on each forum post (especially new members)... I have overlooked this myself a time or two.
