the one time I tried off idle launch at the track I spun.. but now that I think of it more that was the first run and I didn't heat the tires much on that run. other truns I heated them up more but stalled it up. hmmm... after reading this I want to go back now and heat'em up good and stomp it off idle again.

ive done it both ways and havent seen a diff in terms of track times. With the stall I usually hold it higher than idle, but no where near 2500rpm. I usually do it around 12-1600 just so i can control the spinning tires better as I can slowly roll onto it as I need the power through the hole. but like i said. U can go from idle and get the same results but you gotta learn to roll on the gas just right so that u dont sit there and spin.

Simplified (overly): With a stall converter that has adjusted internals you can hold the brakes and give it a little gas and the converter will slip way more than stock. You'll see about 1600 rpms max with a stock one and more with a after market conv. theorectically around the rated stall example:a 4000 rpm stall conv should allow you to hold the car steady until 4000 and it should stop slipping and take off hard as hell when you let off the gas. Lot of maybe's and ifs here. PLEASE do a search and you will find all you'll need to know by someone who can explain this a little deeper. The idea behind my tread is that the tires will not hold traction as you hold the breaks and stall it up. people that footbreak like above mentioned will only be able to reach a rpm barely above stock before the converter over powers the breaks and tire's hold. they get no where near the advertized stall.<which we found out that its okay and you can still near same results with aftermarket verter going from idle compared to stalling. Stall in not the only detail to convertors. flash stall, str, ect. you can spend days learning about them just on this site alone. hope that helped a little and good luck absorbing all the great info in this site.

There's a trick though, if you flash the converter from idle, your tires may not be able to handle it and you'll spin bad. You have to find the middle ground.

Ive got a TCI 4400 in my car, it'll hold the brakes til about 2600 rpm, regardless if I'm on nittos or on mt et street radials, after that it starts pulling through the brakes.

Usually I launch the car around 2K rpm. Next time out I may play with it some and see if I have any better luck at 2500 rpm with the new h/c.

The convertor is going to flash higher than the brakes will hold. So launching the car at different rpms may not do much of anything. Ive noticed that it'll flash around 3600 -3800 rpm depending on how well it hooks.
