Default Transmission Fluid Level (a4)

Hey guys,

I just installed a Yank pt 4000 converter went through all the steps added fluid in the converter before installing onto trans. Now here is the problem, I cannot for the life of me get the right fluid level in the trans.

I added around 5 quarts after the install, not including the fluid in the converter. When I warm the car up and check the fluid level it goes very high on the dipstick(like a foot or so), what is the problem?

The day I added the stall I went through the steps and the dipstick was reading low, so I am totally at a loss on what to do?

One Last thing, the first time we were adding fluid it was taking it just fine, then it seemed like the funnel was stopped up(which it wasn't). Then all at once it just started to burst out of the dipstick tube? What is going on guys, is it overfilled or is it something else, all help needed!!!

Thanks
aaron

A shop did mine and I had a heck of a time getting getting it right too - kept having to add in my case. Have you tried a "cold fluid check"? It's only for a reference and the car has to be off for 8+ hours without the engine being turned over - if it's low don't add any while cold, has to be hot to add fluid. There's also a TC install article at modernmusclecars.net that might help, if I remember correctly they say to add more than 5 quarts. Hope this helps...

If you have fluid puking out the fill tube, check and make sure your vent tube coming from the top of the tranny isn't pinched off. That happened to me after my converter install, pinched that line in the tq arm clamshell and it wouldn't drive right and puked fluid out the dipstick tube. Fixed the vent line and no more problems!

The proper way to ensure you are correctly checking the fluid level is to go through all the gears (driving the vehicle is not necessary) and allow the fluid to fill all of the valve body and passages in the case. Not doing this, just letting the car idle in park until warm, will give you false readings. Before you add any more fluid, do what I suggested and them take two or three readings from the dipstick. If it is still over, you need to empty out some fluid. Doing it this way, I have never had any issues checking my fluid level.

On this.. I recently put my Rock On tranny in. From the get go, I over filled it and it puked out tranny fluid out of the breather/drain tube then stopped. Now, its not doing that but instead, dripping out of the dip stick tube/grommet area under the car. I replaced the dip stick tube grommet and it still leaks. Thinking it was still too full, I checked the level and its barely showing up on the dip stick. So, its NOT full and it still leaks.. WTF is up with this? Any suggestions? Im soooo tired of working this.
