Default Proper 4L60E Trans Fill Procedure?

I've tried running it through all the gears, holding it in each gear for a few seconds then back into park. After doing this there was ZERO fluid present on the dipstick. I went ahead and added about 1/3rd of a quart and proceded to go through the gears again when the trans decided to puke about 1/2 to 1 full quart onto the floor.

Every time I try to check the level I get something different ranging from way high to nothing on the dipstick. Where the hell should the level be and what is the proper way to check it!?!?!?!?!?

make sure the fluid is hot. Drive it around for awhile and then park it on a level place. Keep the car running and then check it. If too low add some more fluid and wait awhile for the residual to drain down and check it again.

That's what was done before the above steps. Every time I check it (in my garage since the floor is level) I get a different reading.

I got the crap burnt out of my hand when it decided to puke everywhere today and I'm tired of messing with it.

i have the same problem. you just have to keep trying. try turning the dipstick the other way around when you insert it, then remove it carefully. i usually have to check mine 5-6 times to start getting a consistent reading. makes me feel stupid when i cant get a good reading.

We put the stock TC back into it, that's why I need to be sure it's full. I topped it off once and everything was ok, then the wife complained about it not feeling right. Sure enough when I checked it it was low again. It seems as though it's low all the time then when I add ANY, it puked more than I added everywhere.

One thing I always do is leave the dipstick out for several minutes while the car is running to let everything get hot and run down before I check it. Checking the oil in my VW is the same way.

I had the exact same problem a few weeks ago when I installed my converter. The vent tube at the top of the trans got pinched shut when re-intalling the torque arm.

Everytime I added fluid it would be different and sometimes just puke fluid out of the dipstick all over my engine bay. Finally got under there and looked and sure enough it was closed shut. I fixed that and then all was good, just had to add a little more fluid.

I don't think the vent tube is plugged, when it puked fluid from the fill tube, it also puked fliud from the top of the trans, probably the vent tube.

I checked it twice over the weekend after driving it all over, the first check it was on the warm mark, the 2nd it was on the hot mark so I'm calling it full!

Sounds like you're OK, mine had delayed shifts when it was low.
