Default M6 to TH400 speedometer conversion

Okay I have a 99 Trans Am that has been converted to a TH400 for quite some time now. The speedometer doesnt work so I bought the conversion kit from Speed Inc. that is supposed to make it work. I dont know how it is supposed to be installed. Its a gear and a sensor thingy and two electrical fittings. Has anyone done this themselves or do I have to take it to a tranny shop for the install?

Remove the tailshaft and have the reluctor ring pressed onto the output shaft. Remove plug on the side of trans and install the VSS sensor. Splice the connector on to the OE speedo harness and connect. It does not matter what wires you connect to which side of the plug, either will work.

So I have to take the driveshaft out, unbolt the tailshaft(I'll see the output shaft after I unbolt the tail?) press on the reluctor ring or does it have to get pressed on by a machine??

What does the plug on the side of the tranny look like?

Best bet would be to have your trans guy do it for you. The plug on the side may look similar to a freeze plug found on SBC/BBC blocks ... it should be on the driver's side towards the rear, it is about a 2" diameter.

Can this be done through PCM tuning software such as HPTuners? Or is electrically tapping into the front wheel sensor the only way?

Instead of having the VSS plug connect to your trans, you reroute it to your Front Wheel sensor (similar plugs). Then in HPTuners you simply change the Pulse Per Mile to achieve the proper MPH reading.

Thats awesome, I reckon you dont have to put the reluctor ring in the tranny? I'd pay somebody to do this because I dont have an HP tuner.
