Default Proper transmission lockup behavior question

Hi all,

I have a '00 A4 that recently saw a 2.73 to 3.42 diff swap. I've handled the pcm corrections through a predator handheld, and gotten quite a bit of support from them in terms of getting everything to work right. Nobody is really sure why but the predator settings weren't lining up with my cars actual behavior. Before anyone says so, yes, it is the latest revision and the gear change setting worked ok. The shift tables however did not and even the diablosport guys aren't sure why.

Well, we are through that now, and all of the wot/kickdown shifting behavior seems ok. The problem is - it seems like that at highway speeds (65+mph) the trans seems to be in full time lockup no matter what.

If I'm cruising in 4th lockup... and roll into the throttle, it doesn't unlock in 4th at all. It'll take about maybe 3/8ths pedal and then kick down into 3rd - which also seems to be still in lockup mode.

For low speed, normal driving - I get the full 1-4th upshift pattern with a clear step into lockup behavior. So that is all set.

I am concerned this is not normal, but maybe at these higher engine revs it is. Are there guidelines for what level of throttle is safe to work in lockup like this?

The driving is fine, I am just worried about my tc clutches long term, if this is not how they should be setup.

Thanks.
