Default Tune with Converter

Is it necessary to get a tune when you get a converter. I have the chance to get a yank 3000 stall coverter for pretty cheap and was wondering if you needed one or will a handheld work?

i had to adjust my shift points some. but i also did a gear swap

You won't need a tune. If anything you may want to bump your idle speed to correct for the lighter mass, but i've been driving 7 months on the stock tune and I have a looser converter.

also do you think a yank 3000 stall used for about a month for $300 a good deal?

Yes that is a great deal. Yank makes good converters. Next of all, I have a Midwest 3600 with no tune. Here are some symptoms that you may need a tune..lockup in OD before 42 or 43 mph, banging rev limiter before shifting, or trouble with the engine finding idle. I have the last 2 issues with my converter. My engine has trouble settling on an idle, it fluctuates when I first come to a stop, and it will bang the limiter when going from 2nd to 3rd @ WOT. The idle doesnt bother me and I prefer 1/8th mile drag racing so i rarely need a 2-3 WOT upshift. I think the 3000 will have fewer issues.

if you have a buddy that can tune most deffinently do it i had a friend and i have a yank pt 4000 and we spent about 2 hrs tuning with hp tuners and it runs totally awesome i ran it with a stock tune and didnt get near the performance as when i got the tune so i would say yes a tune will really help you out
