83 280zx with a sbc(350) and 200-250 shot. car weighs about 2900 with me in it.
it should run a mid to high ten on the motor. and powerglides are simple and dont weigh as much.

1.82 are semi-rare only because they came behind 6 cylinder only and max at 3-400hp. that gear set is not that strong, you should think about a 1.76 at least for your application they are good for up to 600hp and no you wont notice that much a difference in et. like .01-.02. powerglides can be cheap if you start basic but can go sky high depending on application, like 1500-2000 hp.

i think theyre like $900 in jegs for a mild one, but they can cost over $2000 depending on what parts are used in them. like buck4more said, you dont want to use a 1.82 glide... the only thing that is good on those is the case and pump (same as a 1.76). the input shafts are like tooth picks. Id go with used 1.76 glide, then buy a hardened input shaft, stator shaft, and a master rebuild kit. Get the TSR powerglide rebuild manual and have at it. theyre really easy to rebuild and require a minimal amount of tools, especially if you wont be installing a trans-brake. You can probably get away with only having around $300 dollars in it, plus the cost of the used powerglide. Plus youll learn how to build your own transmission, that is priceless

go to your local track and you can probably pick up a powerglide with a 1.82 or 1.76 factory gearset. I bought one from a racer for $600 with a 1.76 and an ATI transbrake installed.
