Default A4 not completing the shift correctly.

Occasionaly when the car shifts from 1-2 and a few times from 2-3 the car won't get through the gear change. It goes right up to the shift point and makes the shift but the revs come down and stay there until I let off and get back on it. It feels like its bogging down badly. It just wont go up in the rpms it's stuck at about 4200 and won't move. I just recently had heads and cam put on but this happened when completely stock but less frequently. I have autotap and custom tuning. Please help me look for some answers.

Stock TC?
If not, you may be bumping the rev limiter.
Stock/not stock TC you maybe experiencing a heavy dose of Torque Management. Seems to be more problematic with the '01s.
Try ATAP monitoring @ WOT and check only :
current gear
timing advance
injector pulse width
rpm
If during/just after the shift the timing drops AND the injectors fall off it may be hitting the rev limiter IF you have an aftermarket TC.
If you have stock TC, try monitoring:
current gear
timing advance
rpm
ATAP seems to pick up the dropped timing quicker during the shifts in this case, which may point to TM.

I have the stock TC. I did atap a few days ago but coudn't log. I had to look manualy at the timing and it didn't seem to drop but I was logging a lot of stuff at the time. I'll try it again with the few things you mentioned and a friend to watch the timing. I don't think it's hitting the limiter which is set at 6600 and the shifts are set at 6100. I did watch the tranny temp which stayed at 216 but did jump to 223 a few times, is this to hot and could it be the problem? Engine temp stayed at a constant 208.

this time just go out and log your timing and engine rpm and see what happens on the shifts.

I know the TQ is worse on the 01-02's then the older ones for some reason.

With that cam it could be showing its face <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

let us know what you find out

check your tranny fuild just to be safe also, go out and drive around for 10-15mins then park the car and just ease it throw the gears one more time while in the parking lot then check the level(leave car running also)

Ok I will do this tonight. I was told by the shop who did the install that they got rid of TM but I guess something might have been missed.

Alright I just got done doing the logging. Autotap doesn't work to good on my laptop so I have to view everything in .csv. but anyway I have 2 logs 1 with a good shift and one with a bad shift. I don't have anywhere to put the files up for downloading but I can e-mail them to anyone who wants to look at them. I looked at them and the timing seems to be fine but I'm no expert. Now on to the important thing. After ragging on the car for a while I stoped and checked the tranny fluid and it was a bit low. There are 2 marks on the stick one for warm and one for hot. The fluid was in the warm area. So now how much am I low and would that be the cause of my bad shifts.
