tranny problems

tranny problems turned the car on this morning and everything was ok until my car wouldnt shift to second gear or third, just stays at one all the time. any idea what this could be?
Are you sure it was stuck in first gear? Did it seem to be slipping or maybe stuck in a higher gear? I believe it might have been stuck in limp mode which will be third gear. Any codes or ses lights? If it is stuck in first gear the low roller is locked up or the low and reverse clutch has welded itself together.
I would also wonder if its actually in limp 3rd gear since any mechanical reason to be stuck in 1st (roller clutch seized) would result in a bind up on the upshifts to the higher gears .
