Default 2 -> 1 shift...

Ok, was at autocross a few weeks ago and found my A4 with 2.73 can get to like 50 mph without redlining, but my question is:

when i get to ~40 and bump it into 2, then as soon as it shifts into 2nd slip it back into 1, will it downshift, or is there a specific MPH you have to reach in order to get a downshift?

Rode in some guy's 5.0 stang and it would not downshift from 2 to 1 until he got down to 29 mph.

May seem like a stupid question, but I'm new at this. Logically, I think the computer would not let the car downshift even if you put it down to 1 when you are going 70 for example :p

You can't go down into 1 over ~30mph.

Thats correct the downshift in the tranny stock will not happen till a specified rpm , However you can install the transgo hd2 kit and it will allow a downshift to first at any speed ,And I used to have and old impala with a 273 so i can understand why you would want to be able to do that.

Of course, that requires tuning to change the final say the computer has over the shifts. The Shift Kit itself will not necessarily change anything in that regard.
