Hi,
I’m having some transmission problems with my 1999 camaro which has the 4l60e transmission on a 3.8L. I wanted to put in a new torque converter in my car. It is a Precision Industries Vigilante lock-up 3200 stall converter. The first time I had it installed it was working fine for maybe like 20-30 miles. Then, all of a sudden when it tries to lock-up (3rd to 4th gear) at around 1800-2000 rpms I started hearing a grinding noise. It’s kind of loud too. So, I took it back to the shop and they switched it back with my stock torque converter and then everything was ok. When I sent other Vigilante torque converter back to Precision industries for repair, they told me that there was nothing wrong with it. No matter how many times they kept looking for something they did not find anything wrong. So they just cleaned it up a little bit and sent it back. So while I was having that reinstalled I also drained my transmission and changed the transmission filter so that everything would be fresh. But the same thing is still happening. It still grinds when the converter is trying to lock-up.
The new torque converter was specifically designed for my car so I’m not sure why there would be anything wrong with it especially when the company says there is nothing wrong. any ideas?

I was reading from a previous post that someone recommend to flush the tranny fluid, change the filter, and add some additive.
When I had the converter put back in the 2nd time, the mechanic drained my tranny and put in a new filter. So, I guess there is new-fresh fluid in my tranny. What kind of additive should I try?
I'm hoping that will fix or at least help the shutter/grinding.

I just bought the Lubegard Automatic Transmission Protectant. I'm going try it later today.
What does everyone think about this?
