Tranny Fluid: Hot/Cold, Low/High
Tranny Fluid: Hot/Cold Low/High How can I check the fluid level on my ar '01 ls1? I can check the temp by putting it int he garage, full operating temp, and checking the dipstick, but what about the level?

automatic trans fluid is supposed to be checked while at engine running temp.
so, that cross thached area is where you should be...

Re: Tranny Fluid: Hot/Cold Low/High Wouldn't it be good if it was running a little cooler though? Mine is right at the line that divides warm|hot. That means it's a 1/2qt low huh?
Re: Tranny Fluid: Hot/Cold Low/High I've checked mine after an oil change, only ran the engine just long enough to warn up fully. The level was in between cold/hot. I thought it was low, my dad said it wasn't hot enough so I drove the car around for awhile came home check it again. This time it was to the top of the hot mark.
Moral: be sure it's warmed up fully, drive it around, then check it while idling in park.
P.S. It's not like a oil dip stick, drive it for 30 minutes to an hour. Make sure the oil isn't discolored and you sould be alright.
