Default Best torque converter for A4

I was wondering if you guys would recomend putting a torque converter on my 01 SS automatic. I am also planning of getting 3.42 gears. Keep in mind that the car is driven daily. Will i have any problems with this setup? What's the best C/T i can get?
Any help will be great!

vig2800, vig3200, ST3500 are all great proven performing daily driver converters.

of course I drive my car daily and I have a PT4400.

later,
Steve

One size doesn 't fit all users.
Are you looking for drag strip or street use?
What tires? Is a bit loose ok?

BTW an SS comes with 3.23 gears. Switching to 3.42s is a waste of money. Once you have a converter, you may find 3.23s are fine.

the car is for street use i have regular pirelli street tires. So you don't think the 3.42's will help? will the C/T give me any problems later on?

A torque converter is the best upgrade you can do for an automatic. I put a Yank stealth thruster 3200 in my 00"Z", but as most people say, go a little bigger on the stall, becuase you'll want more later on. Well, they were right. I'll be selling my st3200 becuase I have a VIG3600 on the way, along with a FLP IV tranny There are 2 downsides of putting in a larger stall converter in a car. (1) more heat is generated in the trans. (2)you'll be going thru tires once a month

The Vig 3200 would also be good but would be harder to launch on street tires. The Vig 2800 wouldn't be bad either.

I agree upgrading to 3.42 from 3.23 isn't worth the trouble and expense. I would go at least 3.73 gears or don't bother. Actually I have seen people say that the 3.23 to 3.73 upgrade is really only worth .1 seconds or so in the quarter mile. So to me even that doesn't seem worth it. You could by a pair of Nitto drag radials and a FTRA for about what you would spend on gears.

So from a perfomance point of view I would do other things before changing gears, you already have a 3.23 which is pretty good. That said, a higher gear ratio will help whatever converter you get to feel not as loose, but I think for a "street" converter with a stall of 3500 or less the 3.23 gears would be fine.

P.S. I noticed your user name has 11 characters in it. Using lower case letters only there are over 3 and a half QUADRILLION possible combinations, and the best you could come up with is vomitcorpse!!! LOL
Sorry, just giving you a hard time...

Good luck on your torque converter.

SY3500 is excellent on the street on street tires. Still needs DRs to get the most of the launch though.

Agree. For street tires a SuperYank 3500 is the way to go.

3.42s will get you nothing performance wise.
As pointed out, once you have a converter, going to 3.73s only cuts about .1 off the 1/4 ET and adds 1, maybe 2 MPH. They sure do feel nice though. Hold off on the gears for now.

Great info guys!
I guess i'll go with the SuperYank 3500.If anyone has one that wants to get rid of it get in contact with me.As for gears i had bought the 3.73's but then heard that they were kinda harsh for a daily driven car so i got rid of them and wanted 3.42's but thanks to your advice i'll stick to the 3.23's!
