Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the only way to run a 4l80e on a '98 pcm is to buy an aftermarket controller to run it.

that why I am wondering. I was thinking of just keeping my 98, but, if that is one more reason to go with a 99+, then that just ties the knot for sure.

I know 98 computers and 99+ computers are in some way differant where the fact that the 98's are not as tuneable as the 99+ computers. With that in mind, I need to make sure that the 98 can be as easily tuned, or not, to the 4l80e as the 99+ computers.

Default 1998 Computer will operate the 4L80E Transmission

I own a 1998 Camaro with a 4L80E Transmission.
My Trans guy told me all he had to do is download a truck file in my 98 Camaro that will operate, shift & lockup my lockup stall converter. He used HP Tuner software to fine tune the shift points, shift firmness & to lock up my converter in 4th gear only. Im running a Billet FTI 4L80E Lockup converter at this time.
Believe me... the 4L80E is the strongest transmission that you can run in your F Body that HAS Overdrive. Im running a stock 4L80 trans with a Trans Go 2 Shift kit. We are spraying a 100 shot of nitrous now & our Camaro hauls azz & shifts fine.
