My car has 76,000 miles on it right now. I am the second owner and bought the car with 42,000 miles on it. So I can say for sure that my 4L60E has worked flawlessly for 34,000 miles. About 7,000 of that was after the TCI 3500.
It is possible (albeit unlikely) that the 4L60E in my car is the original and has never been rebuilt
Knock on wood.

29,000 miles and still going pretty strong with a 3200 Vig. The only tranny problem I've had so far has been the shifter cable went bad. Other than that my tranny still shifting strong as ever.
I have 125,XXX on original A4 right now. It has had some very hard use on it. Frankly I am surprised it is still together. That was on stock motor with xhaust and free mods w/ 100 shot. It is starting to feel loose when it shifts but still together. Rebuilding anyways while I have it out due to new combo.
well i did an ls1 swop into my 86 iroc drove it for 12k miles and the tranny went with stock converter, bought another used tranny to get back on the road and installed a 3600 yank converter and it lasted the rest of the summer and is still running good a little pump whine but nuthing seriouse. I think this one is on its way out but ive turned everything up and shiting is good still and temp isnt a problem since ive installed the guage. a little vibration starting now after 2 months of 12.5 passes on stock engine but nuthing other then a set of slicks and the stall so far.
It's all about heat and rpm's
If you can keep both to a minimum, then your tranny will be fine.
There's no gaurantee's of course, but this is how these things work.
Get a good cooler, a converter that isn't "slipping" all the time, and don't be a moron with it and it will be fine.

30k miles, then added a blower (500rwhp) and good so far for 3.5 months.
added a cooler.
Temperatures rose a little, used to stay around 170-175, now i get up to about 185-190 sometimes, but still very low.

Mine died on the stock verter, and I didn't have an extra cooler...guess I should of tried the extra cooler, although it was the HP that got mine, I'm just a bit over 500rwhp..and the tranny held on for about 5 months. Putting a performabuilt stage 2 in this wednesday.
Now my 2002 Firehawk TA had a Vig 3200 in it for about 3 years, never missed a beat, car was a daily drive....
I agree with some of the earlier posts, that High HP and RPM is what's going to kill a stock 4L60 the quickest.... running near stock and adding a verter isn't something I'd worry about too much.
Of course nothing is a sure thing, you could lose a stock tranny on a stock car if it was built on a Friday before a holiday weekend.....but if you got one that was built on a tuesday while the corporate bigwigs were visiting the factory.... heck that tranny will probably handle a blower.

No option for 6 years either, when mine went out. But, i also have had only the stock converter for the life of the car now at 54,000 miles. I only had about 44,000 miles on it when it faltered and had to be replaced. I did regular maintenance with replacement of the tranny oil and never raced the car. I guess it's just a matter of luck as to how long the 4L60E will last - higher stall converter or stock converter.
I voted 1 month but it was more like 9 days. It crapped out while i was just cruising along at about 40mph. I had only nailed it a couple or three times and not even from a dead stop. Happy Honorable discharge from the USAF present I guess.
I had 30k on mine installed a 3800 stall , new procharged 346,heads cam ect. it lasted about 400 mi. tuning and braking in the motor then 3 or 4 hard runs lost 3rd and 4th gear limpted it home in second. after a full winter and half the summer and obout $10k installing the hole set up it in my 3rd gen I was bumed. it has bean parked for 3 wks.
I dont think the converter had a lot to do with it. its the big power that kills them.
4l80 in the works.
