Default Remember Me??? - Yank Problems...

I had the ST3500 in the 98Z that had pretty bad lockup clutch chatter. Sent the converter to Yank and had it upgraded to the ST3800. Installed it in a 99 SS. Had problems getting to lock up and still had the chatter. I pulled it and replaced with a PYE3600.

Today I installed the ST3800 in another 98Z and it seems to lock up OK, but the clutch chatter is still there. All I'm saying is that this is 3 different cars that this converter chatters in. It's just hard to believe that the problem is not in the converter.

Its the converter.3 different cars and all have the same problem. It has to be the converter unless you didnt do something right on the install. But if you did everything like your suppose to like rotate the converter or something of that nature I am no pro then its the converter.

Once the clutch is glazed, it will chatter no matter what car you put it in.

No lock up issues seems to confirm that some PCM issues were involved in your last car, although I realize the bigger diameter PYE is working for you. I'd still take a look at your programming so you don't have issues down the road.

11K miles of driving with the chatter in the first car didn't glaze the clutches. According to Mike, the converter looked perfect when he had it for the upgrade. He called me to tell me so. I doubt the 300 miles I had it in the 2nd car glazed them either. It only chattered 2 or 3 times before I pulled it. I was up front with the person who has the converter now about the problems I had with it. He was willing to take a chance with it especially since everyone here said it was not the converter, but rather my cars causing the problems. I made him a good deal and installed it for him. I just don't know what to tell him to do to fix it. Would upping the shift firmness with a HPP increase the line pressure when locked up or does this just affect the shifting? He has a HPP.

I'd try the HPP3 on the 25% setting and see if it helps. Tell him to ATAP and make sure his LTRIMs are negative.
