Default Shifter Question

I'm turning to the dark side and will be converting my M6 to an A4. But, I don't want a regular shifter. I'm looking for a ratchet style that I saw on a camaro a while back. The guy HAD to shift the car manually. Up (towards the dash board) would shift up then when he would come to a stop, he had to manually shift down (towards the back seat) or the car would take off in the same gear he was cruising in.
What modifications need to be done for this and CAN it be done on a 4L60E?
