Differences between early / late 4L80E's
Differences between early / late 4L80E's Any one know the facts..
Searching it sounds like there are:
Some internal differences
Different bolt pattern (top bolt on ls1 does not line up but the rest do) I can confirm this
But what about connector differences. I hear the 4L80E shares the same connector used on a 60E. My early 80E is different than the 60E sitting on the floor of the shop.
4L60E connector
4L80E connector (Square piece in the center has a copper/brass sleeve that is threaded)
Am I missing a top pice of the connector perhaps?
If I am missng a piece of the connector, are the pin outs the same between the early/later one?
Is there a different bolt pattern used for the later 80E converter. I have 6 bolts on my stock 80E verter, meassuring in a triangle they are 10" apart center to center. On the 60E there are 3 and they are 9 5/8" apart center to center.

ok you have a pre 93 4l80e how can i tell. that connector was no longer used, shops like us cant even buy that part anymore. your going to end up having to buy a new internal harness. go down to gm and order a internal wiring harness for a 92 model year would work
So wait, If pre 93 used a different internal harness, is the external connector still going to be different? Isn't the 92 going to be the same since it is pre 93?
I'm trying to get this to run with a 99-02 F-bod PCM/Harness.
Are the controls the same on the pre 93 ones? Is there a pin out / connector for the pre 93's that I could splice the f-bod harness in to?

you have to update the harness , as for differences the lube circuit is the major difference note the locations of the cooler lines early at front late front and middle but both are very capable units

I think i spoke with you in messenger but its a simple swap though you may hav to change the manifold pressure sensor I would replace the PWM lockup solenoid while I was in there

Were they all a 10" pattern with 6 bolts or are the newer ones 9 5/8" with 6 / 3 bolts?
How about the pump ends, same or different?

the converters i believe interchange however the later model are more prone to cracking causeing pre-mature 1870 codes. but if you have an after market with a billet piston, your good to over 1000hp even locked up

Ok.. So I got my parts in yesterday 
But I think I got the wrong MAP sensor. I think I got an intake MAP sensor. I don't have the part numbers with me right now but I will put them up later tonight. My dealer gave me the part number but I went through another dealer as they were sorting out a wrong flywheel issue for me. I passed the part number along without having them double check 
I hate when I am the root cause of wrong parts..
Here are some pics, and a couple more small questions:
This little guy is on the new wiring harness. I'm assuming this is the temp sensor that performabuilt mentioned.
I am assuming that the cylinder looking piece in the center is the MAP sensor Performabuilt mentione needs to be replaced due to a different connector. As you can see from the next 2 pics, the connector wont work on this MAP.
Here is the new MAP I received. I need to learn to not pass part numbers with out verifying Obviously it's wrong. I'll update once I get the right one.
Now, I have a question about a screw performabuilt mentioned turning that will increase pressure. Where is this screw? I believe it was 1/4 turn?

Ok.. So after my trip to the local dealer I have found that the piece I have with the wrong connector is the Pressure Control Solenoid. At $140ish I am going to just look at my old harness and cut/solder/shrink tube to old connector on.
The Manifold Pressure unit plugged in the the existing one so I don't need that.
