What rpm do you idle at?

What rpm do you idle at? I've noticed that when i turn my headlights on, my voltage from my battery drops down to below 13v when i'm idling (just under 500rpm)
But if i give it gas to just over 500rpm (seriously hardly touching the gas), i get nice full voltage from the battery.
So i'm wondering if my car is idling just a little bit too low?
