Default Roll racing with a stalled auto?

What do you stalled auto guys do on the highway? If your going to race someone starting at 40mph do you just manually put it in 2nd or do you keep it in od and floor it? Any tips and methods would be great.

Thanks
Alex

Not that I race on the street.

So you do wait untill it down shifts? I would think a m6 would be gone by the time out cars downshift.

My buddie's stage 3 roush hangs right with me on highway races, but I absolutely rape him from a dig-->15mph roll.

I usually just leave the car in od & hammer the gas.

D for me then wack it which usually results in tires spinning street tires suck. I heard that if roll racing on the highway that you should take it out of OD i guess if you leave it in OD it will burn up the bands quicker.

I leave mine in D (3rd), hit the gas and let 'er eat.

Get a big enough stall, and roll racing against a manual car isn't as bad as you think.

There have been many threads on this subject. From those, and my personal experience, my car will stay in the OD selection from now on.

40roll= death lol but from 50 its ok leave it in OD and hit it on the second honk..by the time the third honk comes your in 2nd..now for a 10-20mph roll i pull it into 1st and just bump itto OD after we take off..that way i know i get the jump..

Yeah 40mph is not good. You really need to be going 25-30mph for a 1st gear kickdown, or around 60mph for a good 2nd gear kickdown. Leave it in OD for best results (I know, everyone said this was bad before but it was proven wrong).

when we used to do 20 mph rolls in my 383 LT1 w/ 3.73s I would keep it in 1st gear and stomp it. right as I stomped it I would slide the shifter into 2nd. as the rpms would approach 6500 rpm I would slide it into 3rd and keep it there till I shut down (at about 130 most of the time)

from a 20 roll with all the 383 torque and a 3500+ rpm stall it was DEADLY. surprised alot of guys who think autos arent good from rolls

hell, even from 40 mph rolls I could easily pull several car lengths on stick cars right away.

What would be a good setup to get rid of the dead spots while roll racing. Sorry to hijack, but I will be getting an A4 car soon and I plan on stalling it quickly. Most of the guys around here only roll race unfortunately, so I need all the help I can get. I will be taking it to the strip quite a bit as well.... any suggestions?

Not that I race on the street.
99% of my racing is on the street and most people with half a brain would rather race an auto from a roll. Hence, I race most people from a roll.

If you leave the car in OD or 3rd and try to leave on the 2 honk, the other guy will react to you motor reving and will gas it before your tranny has time to downshift.

Hold the car in 2nd gear and on 3rd honk, gas it and imediately upshift to OD. I say OD and not 3rd because your trans gets the most line pressure in OD for the 2-3 shift. This won't hurt the tranny. What hurts the tranny is letting the lower gears slow the car down like a manual. If you downshift to roll race, make sure you match the revs and apply more throttle. Don't let the gear slow the car down!!

With my transmission I can't put it into 3rd and expect good results. Reason is, if I floor it from 3rd the transmission will take up to a full 1-2 seconds to downshift. If I leave it in OD, it goes immediately.

I'd think it would depend on your stall and where you make power.
