Default 4L60E Bellhousing:

Hi Guys,

I am in the process of buying a donor car for my LS1 swap for my 1991 formula firebird. The car took a hard impact from the right and the trans bell housing is severly cracked. The owner claims the bell housing is replacable (similar to a manual trans) is this true?

If the trans is repairable is there a chance that the input shaft is bent?

If anyone can post a few pics of the 4L60E I would appreciate it.

BILL

Default Re: 4L60E Bellhousing:

The bellhousing is a seperate piece like most manual trannys. It is replaceable.
ANYTHING could be broken in the tranny after a hard impact, when inertia slams the gear unit against the aluminum case, etc....

I wouldn't pay enough money for a tranny like that that I couldn't afford to eat it should it turn out to be junk. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Embarrassed]" src="gr_emb.gif" />
