Default TPS question

what causes a TPS to go bad? or does it? my car acts up periodically and i think it could be that. none of the wires on it are loose. but sometimes when i ease into the throttle, like when i drive like i should, the motor winds up really high to about 3500rpms and then jerks into gear. i was driving through an intersection earlier and i chirped tires going only about 20mph. so does anyone have any thoughts? thanks.

A TPS is a poteitiometer much like a volume control and they get noisy and give false reading etc as they get old sometimes.

think a new one would help the problem? it usual only happens after a cold start, but after i drive for a few minutes it normally clears up.

Same issue I am having now again. Old one threw a P0123 and was very jerky with the shifts. 3 months later I threw a P0123 and P0121 code. When the car warms up I have no OD and very jerky. Got a new TPS at work and this should do it.

Any ideas on how to reset the TPS just for information sake?
