Default RPMS rise in gear?

i just put a new motor in my car and when i put it in reverse the car reved from 1100 to like 2500....i have a vacuum leak would that do it? im gonna cap it tomorrow but with the vacuum leak it was idleing at 1300 or so so its small...i didnt think it would make the RPMs go higher in gear.

Actually it might , The idle speed is increased by the PCM when you place the trans in gear. However the vaccum leak may cause this to be exagerated, Fixing it will probably solve your issue
