Default Tranny Going Bad? Maybe Converter? ST3500

Well I have been getting this chattering vibration problem from my tranny for a while now. Around 30-45 mph or more, If Im just driving a steady speed and want to go from 45 to 55, Ill give it about 1/3 throttle and it will feel like the rear end/tranny starts vibrating. It feels like its coming from the rear end. Well I got in the car today, I havet been driving it hard, and it starts wanting to slip up

If I give it gas from a stop light it will be fine, then right before it shifts, say its going to shift at 3500, it will slip all the way up to 4500 then give this slipping shift. Now if Im going down the road in Drive and I start giving it gas gradually, it wants to slip up through the rpm range without the car getting any faster. It might go a little faster, but not much.. Now if I put it in 3 and drive it around at 55 mph it does MUCH better.

Im not throwing any SES codes due to the tranny.. I have been throwing an IAT sensor code though. The vibration is under low throttle, and when it slips is when I start giving it harder throttle and on shifts.. (the harder throttle slipping only happens in drive from like a 55 speed or so)

I have 90,000 miles on my tranny and I have a ST3500 (I know they have had issues with this converter). I bought the ST3500 used off someone on here and have had it on the car for about 20,000 miles. I have sprayed on this tranny and converter also.

I also added some fluid and it didnt stop. So if anyone can help me, I would be very grateful...

Thanks in Advance...

Sounds like it's time for a rebuild (I'd use Alto clutches and a kevlar band.) It also sounds like your line pressure is down causing your converter clutch to chatter. Might want to have that checked out. It could be what made your frictions go south.

Colonel - Im not really knowledgeable about trannys. This may be a stupid question, but when I take this tranny in to be rebuilt, do I just tell them I want it replaced with Alto Clutches and a Kevlar Band or do I order them somewhere and bring them in with me? If so where can I order what I need. Some places around here will try to rape me on part costs and such...

Thanks

That's where it helps to have a good tranny shop. Really, only talking to people that have used a certain tranny shop will tell you if they're trustworthy and competent. If they're good they should already know what Alto clutches and a kevlar band are. They should also know where to get them at a good price.

My tranny guy orders my clutches, bands, and other parts through the local Bumper to Bumper Auto parts. The full set of clutches, band, and fluid should be about $300-320 best I remember (could be less.)
