Default 4L60E question

i have a 94 Z28 A4, i was just wondering why the shifter only goes from Oto D to 2 and not 1st?? just a little confused on that part.

It will actally go all the way to first there a blok in the shifter stopping it some cars were like that you can remove it and you will be able to do manual low 1

can you manualy shift the car from 1st to od without hurting the car?

Generally speaking if your LT1 car came with 2.73s, GM deleted the option to manually shift into 1...I've heard the reasons stemmed from emissions, mpg, excessive mph in 1st gear, etc, etc...Anyway, if you remove the console you'll see a plastic gate (molded block) that physically blocks the shifter from manually going into 1 on the passenger side of the shifter...Cut the block off with a hack saw blade and you can manually select 1...

As far as shifting manually, I let my computer control the shifts..The trans was rebuilt to allow for manual shifting without hurting anything, however...
