What is the most efficient auto tranny out there.
Most efficient to least efficient commonly used ones:
1) Powerglide, if built right
2) Tie - turbo 350/200-4R
3) Probably 700-R4
4) Turbo 400 or 4L60E - not sure which goes where
5) 4L80E - easy last place in this list
Someone else - please chime in with what you have seen, especially if different from above.
In answer to your question, the 4L70E is a form of a modified 200-4R. There will not be much difference in power made between it and the TH350 provided it is built right. Also, the external dimensions for the 4L70E (modified 200-4R) and the TH350 are nearly identical.
Let's say you go from the stock tranny to a powerglide, if you added enough weight to the back of the car so that it's the same weight, will it be slower with the powerglide because you have only two gears?

George would be a good person to answer this question since he has been running one (errrr . . . running many transmissions). A 'Glide is typically more of a hardcore setup since you only have two gears. Generally, you want to have the drivetrain and engine RPM band setup for it if you want one of these (meaning good, low gearing and a high revving engine usually). Anyone else's comments??

Generally, a powerglide is a good choice in a car weighing less than 3000lbs, making a decent bit of hp. A 2-speed tranny in an otherwise stock car would slow it down a lot.
I've had good luck with the powerglide, but I can't leave well enough alone, and feel there's some more to gain, so I'm going to a TH400 now.
I'll have my 1.82 1st gear t-brake equipped powerglide for sale soon if you're interested.
IT worked out that the PG is first, 4L60-e/th700 second, Th200-4r third, th-350, th-400 than the 4L80-8
