Default ST3500 Questions within

Ive read about the problems (chattering) with these, but is it something that occurs from day one, or is it something that could come around with some time and mileage? I have the chance to buy a low mileage ST3500 for a pretty good price compared to new that hasnt had any problems so far. Should I go for it or would I be better off getting something else? This is going to go on a 2002 Z28 with all the boltons, 2.73's, and eventually a 100 shot.

well, i have had mine in for 3-4 months now and have had zero problems with it. i would say as long as its not chattering as is, then go ahead and buy it. along with it, tires are a very good investment.

It normally takes time to develop. If you know or trust the seller, and they had no problems and were properly tuned, then it is probably safe to buy.

I would not buy a used converter from anyone that had tranny trouble, unless the price includes an allowance to send the converter back to the manufacturer for inspection.

Check the date on the converter. If it was made in '02, then it has all the upgrades for the '01s and 02s. If it's older than that, you could send it back to Yank for the upgrades. From what I understand, Mike does these at cost for folks buying used converters and wanting the updates.

I had one I bought new that chattered from day one and have one I bought used that gave the original owner no problems and works perfect. They were both built before 02. The problem one was even sent back for a stall chance and showed nothing wrong with it when inspected by Yank. Still chattered when I got it back. It was upgraded 12/01.

Thanks for all the quick replies. It is from someone in our fbody group here, so I trust him. Thats why I was curious if it was something that occured over time or was there from the start. It was originally bought December of last year. Thanks for any more input you may have.
