Default Gear selector in 96 A4 trans am

My first 4th gen A4................the selector only has D 3 2 what is needed to shift into first? Can i just mod the console or do i need a diffrent console and shifter...thanks

My understanding is theres a plastic stop there to keep it from going back but if you remove it even though the selector dosent say 1st it will go there

Correct. Remove the console. Shift down to 2nd gear. You will see the plastic stop that it hits. Remove. I used a small hacksaw. (You can probably replace the gear indicator plastic if you wish.) I did not, but I still have 1st gear when/if I want it.
