Default @ WOT buzzed the REV limiter, on 2-3 shift!

Today I was doing a little racing, and heres the thing, I have the car in D, stall up to 2500Rpm and launch. At about 80 instead of shifting I am greeted with the sound of a Buzzing rev limiter, I immeadatly let off and slowed down. Is there any explaination as to what happened, Or was it just a fluke?

Could be some fluke of tuning or if it starts doing it regularly it could also be the 3-4 clutch failing . how does it feel shifting at part throttle?

Clutches are slipping.
Rebuild time.
It happened to mine with about 45k
Fully built now hi-po servos, reinforced sun gear and new bearings, kevlar clutches, shift kit, and hi-stall.
Too many burnouts and manual shifts were my pitfall.
Good luck.

I would try changing the trans filter if for no other reason to see whats in the pan but normally this means the 3-4 clutch is slipping under power, You could try lowering the RPM and MPH for the 3rd shift but if that does not help your looking at a rebuild or trans replacement

You can band-aid it for a little while by turning the 2-3 shift point down, but the trans is on it's last legs. I've been there. You need to start shopping for a replacement.

BUMP!

I am going to drop the shift point to 5800 rpm, and keep moving it up till it starts not shifting again. Someone told me that a stock 4L60E will not survive very long when it see 6000+ rpm's, is there any truth to this?

Not that it makes a difference, but I have a Trans-Go shift kit sitting on my tool bench, would it be possible for me to bump up the line pressure enough to hold at 6000+ RPM's.

O, and I will not put in a New auto tranny, As soon as I have enough funds, I will be doing a T56/ 9inch swap.

Mine does the same thing in drive....hit's the limiter on 2-3.....put it in OD and it doesn't do it....no slipping in this tranny at all....87k stock with a shift kit and stall....I'd heard that the ECM does some things differently when the shifter in in d/3 instead of OD and it seems true for my car....I always leave it in OD at the track or when messing around on the street....

200+ passes...last 50 or so on a 100-125 shot out of the hole shifting at 6300

If it only happens in the D position then here probably what occuring , Unlike the OD position in the D position on the 2-3 shifts another clutch is applied. Its my understanding when you launch in the D position the overun clutch is on in first but for some reason goes off in second and then comes back on during the 2-3 shift, This uses a higher volume of fluild increase the time it takes to turn on the 3-4 clutch.Though most built units do not experince this ours or others, Some units have more clearance and require more volume to apply the clutchs . In the OD position the overun clutch is not on at any point during the upshifts. Of course I am no tuner but as you mentioned there may be some shift strategy issues with the PCM in D also depending on the tuning.
In your case though if would probably work well if you are wanting to start in D to move the selector to the OD position right after the 1-2 shift and that should avoid this issue. Hope this helps.
