Replacing M6 with A4... which tranny to go with?

So after 4 rebuilds on my T-56, and the 3-4 synchro AGAIN going out (getting stuch in fourth, and popping out of third only EIGHT DAYS after the fourth rebuild), I'm considering replacing it with an A4 and being done with it.
So here's my question: The car is my daily driver, but will see dragstrip use weekly next summer. What tranny would you A4 guys recommend? Plain-jane 4L60E? a "built" 4L60E? TH350? TH400? Something else?
Just looking for informed opinions here.

You have a couple of choices, that depend upon budget and your ultimate amount of torque. Here is some info:
First, you will want to get a GOOD converter. Ignoring board fights and brand ******, both PI and Yank make good converters. Look to spend $700 new for a PI and upwards to $1000 for a top end Yank. The best times are being run right now on Yank converters, but good times are also being run on the PI Vigs.
Then, choices:
1) TH350/400. Cheapest option, and easy to build to take a lot of torque. You will give up OD if you do this, which is kind of a no-no for a daily drive.
2) BUILT 4L60Es (such as the FLP Level IV). A good option if power/torque levels don't get too high. Much more expensive, but a good option for a daily driver for obvious reasons. Recommened route if you are going to be about 550 ft-lbs or less peak torque.
3) A well-built 200-4R. Most expensive option, but can be built to take 900 ft-lbs or more regularly. Has very good gear ratio and overdrive, but no electronic control (but easily manually shifted).
4) Powerglide - hardcore only. 2-speed auto - would only go with it if you are running a 400 shot on a solid roller. Not a good daily driver tranny at all, but can be made bullet-proof easily.
5) 4L80E - electronically controlled and virtually bullet-proof. Keeps OD and allows various gear ratios. Is expensive, HEAVY, and causes far and away the worst parasitic power losses.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Greg. I appreciate the info. I'd always wondered what the differences were! I have a line on a 4L60E for cheap (buddy's tranny, he has it just lying around) so that's probably the route I'll go.

Im thinking of slapping a power glide in my M6 in the next few weeks. Im tired of the clutch woes and the busted 3/4 synchros and shift forks. Should be pretty fun
Any of you guys selling your m6 trans. If so leave me a message.

I say get GM to buy back your car, OR have those bitches give you a brand new trans. The probelem is the case of the trans, not the internals. They were made wrong. Its a 01-02 defect.

Keep your 6 speed, just get it fixed right, with a new trans!

Thanks, but GM has already voided my warranty on the basis of "abuse" and made it clear that they won't pay for any more rebuilds. If my car were stock, I'd pursue them under Indiana's Lemon Law (I am an attorney by trade), but with a line lock and a Moser 9-inch installed, I'd lose that case. I won't be getting any satisfaction from GM, much as I'd like to stick it to them for putting these weak T-56's in the 98-02 cars. Instead, I'm having a 4L60E built up by a speed shop & putting in a Vig 3600 stall converter. I'll have a quicker car, AND a more reliable tranny, all for about the same cost as getting a quality rebuild done by D&D or Valvegod.

Oh, well good luck. Let us know how it turns out. GM can kiss my *** and they can fix it 1000 times if they have to. I have only boltons so everything is coming off and they can suck up the cost to fix it again.
These transmissions suck ***. This girl who works at a local salon bought an 02 Z28 M6. She has never floored the car before and the trans has the same probelems that alot of other people do. Its pathetic.
