4L60E Internals question
If and when I blow the trans again, I will likely rebuild it myself since it is no longer under warranty. I want to build something similar to the Yank transmissions but I have a few quetions.
1: Adding additional clutch disks; any aftermarket baskets available or do I need to machine them myself?
2: Transbrakes: I've seen them as "options" on Yank rebuilds, but does anyone make a TB kit for sale?
3: Upgraded front pump. Earlier LS1 4L60E's had I believe a 10 vane pump, newer ones include 13 vane pumps (iirc something like that). Is the "upgraded FP" that companies talk about just the 13 vane GM pump, or something above that even?
4: Upgraded planetaries. Is it just the planetary gears themselves, or is it a whole assembly; inner, outer, and planet gears?
5: Custom ratios. Where to buy?
Thanks in advance, I know these are not simple questions but any help would be appreciated <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

First of all, call Dana at www.pro-built.net for advice. He helped me do mine and I've had absolutely no problems with it.
1) Extra clutches generally fit in the stock
drums via decreasing the thickness of the backing plate(s), clutches, steels(seperator plates), or snap ring in various combinations. I think Art Carr sells some kind of fancy non-stock drum but
I don't know anything about it.
2) Beats me. I wouldn't touch a transbrake with a 3700-lb pig like mine on a 4l60-E
3) Don't know the exact date they switched, but my '98 had a 13 vane pump stock. Buy a kit for the pump with hardened vanes and have the pump halves surfaced flat.
4) 5 pinion/planet planetary "4L65-E".
5) Dunno? Is anyone selling some for 4L60-E...?
Pictures of a lot of the stuff are at

Wow, awsome info my friend! I'll be sure to check that all out.
As far as the custom ratios, I'm sorry, Yank is offering a custom 1st for the 4L70, I thought it was for the 4L60/E versions. Sorry about the confusion.
Pete
