I raced with Nittos for the first time and had trouble with the 2-3 shift. Will the drill out mod help or is the problem caused by heating up the clutch during the burnout?

define 'trouble'

did the car snap into two? trouble is relative <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

what kind of shifter do you have?

did you go back into first then smoke the clutch or overheat it in the burnout and have the pedal stick going to third?

overall the stock clutch sucks and you need to toss it if you are going to continue racing the car... its literally not made for it.

ok ill be more specific.

Before the tires, everything was fine. With the Nittos, everything is fine until trying to shift into third. No problems with the burnout, launching at 4500rpms the clutch slips a bit but holds the motor at 4k.

the 1-2 shift is ok but when trying to upshift into third its like its blocked off. When shifted really slow granny style it will go into third. The 3-4 shift seems ok but at the end of the quarter the clutch pedal is stuck half way to the floor. All the shifts are normal just quick as possible. No powershifting.

The clutch pedal sticking half way to the floor is the biggest clue as to whats wrong. Looks like something with the hydraulics. Im thinking maybe a new slave or drill out mod. Its a 2000 z28.

Try the drill mod first. You are going to need something better soon though, especially if that does not work. But you need the mod anyway for the next clutch.

Dug,

What kind of shifter do you have? I remember trying to race with my hurst shifter, I always missed 2-3 shift everytime. I went with the Pro 5.0 shifter and it friggen rules.

Also, you must have a good track to launch @ 4500 rpm. Where I race I could only launch at 3000-3500 max or I would spin the tires. Now that I have heads/cam/Moser 4.30's I can only launch at like 2300-2500 or my tires go up in smoke. Even though I launch at 2300 I still cut 1.90 60's.
