Default tranny tuning question

I'm in the process of planning my combo for a complete engine/tranny/rear end build-up but for now I'm adding a few bolt-ons. I have a high mileage tranny that I'm going to replace here shortly, I'm deciding between FLT stage 4 or performabuilt stage 2. Either way I want a Vigilante 3200 converter.
My question is, will the tranny/converter just bolt in and work right or do I need to tune the car to get everything to work right. I want stock or near stock shifting points and lock-up at light throttle but nastiness at full throttle.
I'm planning to tune the car as it becomes more serious, just don't know that I need to now but the car is going to need a tranny soon.

tuning in many cases is not requred but benificial , But in some cases with stalls 3000 up some tuning is required. In some cars but not other for some reason the PCM will set code 757 for the 2-3 solenoid after a stall is put in sometimes imediatly sometimes after a bit, Rear ratio seems to play a big part in this and the test for that code has to be removed. What actually happens is the PCM comands third but due to the stall when it looks at the engine RPM verse the actual speed because of the stall it assumes the shift did not ocur so it will set a code stating that shift solenoid B is stuck. This may or may not be the case in your car but its the only reason that I code see that imediate tuning could be required.

So if I tune the computer to shift by rpm instead of speed it should be fine? I guess if all the speeds in the chart are kept low they will always be satisfied and rely on rpm, is that correct?
Also will the stock converter lock-up settings work with the higher stall?

Honestly I am not sure of the exact setting you change as I am not a tuner, However from what I am told you have to remove the test for the code.

It has also been my experience that you will probably need to make adjustements to the initial round of settings once the car has been driven under several circumstances. I was involved in tuning trannies for a while, but honestly I forget some of the details... I'll get back in a day or so after discussing this with my tuner later today. Previously we made collaborative decisions after seeing the results from passes and daily driving in our test mule. Again it's been a while... we tried many different combnations in an effort to learn... different engine combinations, different tranny/ converter combinations and I just have not used that knowledge in a few months by now. I'll get you something you can use as a benchmark here soon... but there are some good tuners here... try searching the forum for more.

The stock Lock Up parameters will work just fine. I would recommend though that 3rd gear LU is disabled as your car may "cam surge" at lighter throttle and slower speeds depending on the combination you choose.
