Default Dipstick needing dipstick help

I am putting in a 4L80e. I got the bent tube from Speed-Eng (a site sponsor). It says you can use the 4L60e dipstick with it. But when I put the dipstick and tube in the tranny, the dipstick itself is WAY too long. It hits the bottom of the pan and slides a few inches. Basically there's no way it's right.

How long should the dipstick be for a 1999 4L80e?

Put the dip stick in as far as it will go not forcing it then mark it at the top of the tube. Pull it out and cut that much off the bottom. Then take the piece you cut measure how far the full mark is, amd make a mark on the dipstick to show the full mark. Worked just fine for me.

It is not at all uncommon to have to cut / modify a generic dipstick. Just use the instructions given previously here and you'll be fine... be sure to mark it before discarding the piece you cut off!
