hey guys, we all know how good performabuilts trannies are doing. i was interested in there level 2. but im looking at doing there stalls also. i honestly was looking at a vig 3200. but was wondering how the performabuilt 3500 stall compares? how is it driving around town, and stuff like that. i plan on doing h/c and 150 shot..and also some 3.73's also..

ive heard they are very tight

 

our standard converter is tight however we do now offer STR choices

 

I've got one, but it has yet to be installed but from all the research I did and talked to the owners they seem to be very tight, very efficient and a great converter.

I have one of their 9.5" 3000 stalls in my 94 LT1. I definetely wouldn't describe it as "very tight", but it isn't sloppy either. It flashes to exactly 3000 rpms and the lock up is very solid. Adding the stall, 3.73 gears, drag radials, and removing the sway bar knocked just shy of 4/10 off of my 60' time. Overall, I am very happy with the converter and service from Performabuilt.

 

I have learned that tight and loose is a matter of tolerance of the individual lol.

 

True enough! I consider tight to be anything that drives like near stock. If I'm pushing 2200 to keep up with traffic leaving a stoplight, I don't call it tight. Loose to me is when twenty five years ago, we would use 10" Vega converters for a stall. Let me tell you, those fuggers were loose!

 

Yeah those little Vega converters were the **** back in the day!!! Right out of the box, it was on. That was back before there was only B&M or TCI to work with... a few more but man they were cheap, bulletproof and ran like hell!

Yes I remember those little vega converters I actually had one behind a 454 anoying as hell around town , But you nailed then it went to 5000 and you were doing nothing but spinning rubber, And that was with a 4800 pound car with posi . Was cool till i broke the shell in several peices. LOL

 

kinda interested in one of these converters for my lt1 car possible you could PM me a price on say a 3000 stall didnt want to start a new thread

 

I have a 9.5" 3000 on the lv2 I have behind the ls6 in my truck and I love the feel! Actually
flashes to 3000-3200 and is decently tight around town. I would buy one of their conv.
even if I didn't have one of their trans.

i have a level 2 trans with 3000 stall . love the trans and converter set up. comparing the converter to my previous tci it is much tighter. i wish on my setup i had gone with the 3500. performabuilt tried to get me to step up to the 3500 but i was afraid of a loose converter. they know their stuff. shifts are firm and the converter flashes in at 3000.

 

Thanks we do have and excellent converter at a reasonable price but with no short cuts we have people running them supercharged NOS etc etc and they hold up really well. We have yet to have one fail in any application due to HP.

 

loose to me is a converter that feels like your trying to slip out a trex m6 car from 3rd gear . tight to me is well...like driving a m6 car, stock is well stock

 

like I said all people have different veiws on it when we started this to be honest i was a little nieve on converter hey I am TRANS GUY but I have learned alot and tolerance is the rule, whats loose for one guy is great for another lol.
