Default A4 Question

I cant ever post in the drivetrain section!!


Anyway my question is....How hard is it to install a trans go shift kit? I recently got a vig3200 and it says that a transgo kit is recommended so I thought I might as well buy it if I need it. Or do I need it? Would it hurt anything if I didnt get it?

YOU DO NOT "NEED" IT. If you can afford one and want to put it in then go ahead, it sure wont hurt anything, but not getting one will not hurt anything either. I had a vig3200 in my car for a while and now a 3600 and I have never installed a shift kit. The only one thing you will need is a tranny cooler. I also have installed a trans temp gauge. If you go to the track quite often and do many back to back passes its probably a good thing to have unless you have ATAP and can monitor all that stuff. But as for the shift kit, if you haven't alredy do a search on it and see what others are saying.

I agree. A cooler is a must have but a shift kit is not needed, but it is an improvement. The kit must be installed correctly or you will have problems, possibly severe down the road.

I ordered the tranny cooler at the same time as the converter. I might hold off on the shift kit for a while and see how it does without it. Thanks for the responses.

The shift kit is relatively easy to install. The biggest bitch will be the accumulator on the side of the trans (I think that 's the 4th accumulator) since you can't put the assembly back in- you have to put it back in 1 piece at a time due to clearance issues with the trans tunnel.
If you get the "non-professional" kit it even comes with a videootape that walks through the install.

As Lynda said it isn't a neccessity or morever as much as a transmission cooler is. When I put in my 3200 I did opt to put in the transgo however I have burned through that transmission after 23,000 odometer miles and 14,000 on that verter/ trans combo. Now I just put in a race prepped trans that shifts more firmly and more crisp than the transgo ever did. I guess the moral of the story is do what you want, not what someone else recommends, but do have a back-up plan.
