Default Is This A Shift Cable Problem?

Hey guys I got a Turbo 350 Tranny. The car will not move, and the shift lever (b&m ratchet slapshifter) is real loose. I had this problem the other day, and I unbolted the two bolts holding the bracket of the shift cable to the tranny pan. I pulled the cable to the left for two clicks, and pushed it to the right two clicks to lign the bracket to the two holes that keep her attached to the pan. Started her up, and put her into gear, worked perfectly for 2 days (maybe 12miles). Now I have the same problem again, it feels like she's in nuetral when I gas it, but when the pedal is to the floor, she moves at about 2 miles an hour. The shift cable itself is pretty long and the shifter is very loose. But when I fixed it the first time, the shifter became strong and hard to shift, but now I try to do the same thing and nothing. Any help would be much appreciated.

thanks

This belongs in the Auto Trans forum.

To answer your question, which shifter is it. B&M never offered a "ratchet slapshifter", they do have different models of ratcheting shifters. Each one functions differently from one another, but they all use the same trans bracket, which has no "clicks" for adjustment. Also, it sounds like you are hanging in between gears, this can cause transmission failure if you keep operating it this way, without properly getting it adjusted. Finally, have you contacted B&M's tech support for a possible replacement shifter handle or mechanism?

well it's a B&M megashifter. And as far as the clicks go I meant the d-clip connected to the cable and tranny, clicked in and out of gear only three times. But anyways I got the problem so-called fixed, but now every gear P R N 1 2 3 the car moves foward. So I thought I got it backwards and moved the lever in the car into 1st (thinking it'd be park) and the car still moves fowards. In reverse the car will move fowards about 3inches and bounce backwards to a stop.
Now i am lost

So you are not using the supplied cable? You need to put the trans in park with the cable disconnected, place the shifter in park as well. Ensure the trans lever pin engages the trans lever easily, adjust the cable slack if there is any bind. DO NOT INSTALL yet. Now place the trans in 1st gear, place the shifter in 1st gear. Ensure that the trans lever pin engages the trans lever easily. Now place the trans and shifter in park and temporarily install the pin to the trans lever, have a friend assist you in selecting the gear. You will need to verify that the trans is properly engaing the detents inside of the trans while the shifter is in the corresponding gear. You need to verify all the gears. If you experience any mis-adjustment or inproper engagement, you will need to readjust the cable. Good luck!
