On higher mileage vehicles that have not had continuous service we recommend that the transmission service not be done if the unit is not symptomatic... this is vehicles over 100k miles that have had only one tranny service for example. I know yours has 77k, but if those have been hard miles than it will be no different. There would have to be a judgement call by myself and my staff of technicians. And then we would consult with the owner of the vehicle.
The whole idea here is that the fluid in higher mileage trannies will have very fine clutch debris suspended that actually aides in the application of clutches. Also the fluid has broken down and some of the conditioners and lubricants have deteriorated. When the fresh fluid is installed it can indeed create symptoms such as you are experiencing.
The only fault I see, and it is a judgement call every time mind you, is that the shop that serviced your unit did not warn you beforehand.
Communications is the key.
Good Luck.
